Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose timber over PVC?

Timber is a sustainable building product that has stood the test of time. It’s also a natural insulator. Timber windows are versatile and different finishes can be given to your timber windows if your taste changes in years to come. Draught seals, hinges, locks and handles are all easily replaced.

What are the maintenance requirements for timber windows?

Windows coated with a sikkens finish will need a top up coat every 5 to 6 years.  As with all windows, any metal parts should be oiled on a regular basis to keep them working freely.

Which timber should I choose?

The best timbers for external use in Ireland are cedar, teak, sapele and accoya.

Can I reglaze my existing sash windows?

Yes. Until recently this was not possible but thanks to new glass technologies you can give your period sash windows a glazing upgrade.

What are the benefits of reglazing over replacing?

Reglazing is less costly to you and the environment. It means less mess and less material going to landfill with all the benefits of superior glazing.

What happens to the sawdust?

All our sawdust is recycled, compacted into briquettes at our shop and then used as a bio fuel.
